Now, we have reached a major milestone: achieving AS9100D certification—one of the most rigorous and globally recognized quality management standards for aerospace, defense, and space applications. Earning it demonstrates that our processes don’t just meet expectations; they stand up to the highest level of global scrutiny. 

AS9100D certification builds upon ISO 9001, adding extensive requirements around risk management, product safety, supplier oversight, and accountability. For QP Technologies, the path to certification required a comprehensive demonstration that existing processes met the heightened standard—resulting in a smooth transition thanks to our well-established ISO certifications and ingrained culture of focusing on quality. 

Rigorous Multi-Phase Qualification 

The certification process was completed through TÜV SÜD America and conducted across two formal audit stages. The first stage, spanning a full day, focused on reviewing our quality management system to determine readiness and compliance. Once we were approved to proceed, the more extensive second stage followed approximately three months later, requiring five days onsite audit of the systems and processes. 

During this phase, the auditor engaged with purchasing and sales departments, manufacturing engineers, operators, inspectors, the materials and receiving team, and the quality  assurance team —reinforcing the AS9100D requirement that quality ownership extends across the organization rather than residing only within a single department. As noted in the certification process, passing AS9100D is fundamentally a team effort, ensuring that documented procedures are not only in place but actively followed on the manufacturing floor. 

Following the audit, overseen by our director of quality, Annette Aquino, any nonconformities were submitted through the Online Aerospace Supplier Information System® (OASIS) database, where we were required to provide root cause analysis, corrective action and objective evidence for review. Only after approval from the auditor, TÜV SÜD’s technical review board, and OASIS technical review board was certification granted—highlighting the heightened scrutiny and transparency required to serve the aerospace and defense sector. 

Moreover, certification isn’t a one-and-done event. We will recertify every three years and complete mandatory annual surveillance audits from the registrar. Continuous improvement is part of QP Technologies’ culture, and AS9100D reinforces that discipline. 

Why AS9100D Matters 

AS9100D carries additional expectations compared to earlier revisions, including deeper risk management and accountability across every department. It also differs from standards like ISO 13485 because nonconformities are recorded and visible in OASIS, giving aerospace and defense customers an added level of confidence and traceability. 

Achieving this certification unlocks new opportunities for us. We can now engage in higher-level defense programs—including secure and top-secret applications that require AS9100D certification—as well as a broader range of aerospace and space projects. As a result, it reinforces QP’s role as a trusted supplier, with risk, reliability, and product safety fully integrated into all of our processes—from material handling to inspection to final delivery. 

As part of this strategic expansion, we recently welcomed Ben Mendoza as our new VP of military projects. Ben brings extensive experience in defense program engagement and will lead our efforts to support mil-aero customers, strengthen program readiness, and ensure alignment with the stringent requirements of this sector. His leadership and work with our team will be instrumental as we take on increasingly complex and mission-critical work.
